Notorious leader sought to change gang life
Tributes have been paid to Mongrel Mob Notorious chapter president Roy Dunne for his efforts to create better lives for gang members.
Mr Dunne died on Tuesday in Paeroa after a long illness.
Black Power advisor Denis O’Reilly says he was a revolutionary leader who turned aside from a lifestyle of crime and set forth on a fresh trajectory of non-judgmental whanau development.
He was credited with ending a spate of youth violence in Auckland several years ago that led to eight murders, and his work with addiction recovery was also radical and pioneering.
The Salvation Army says Mr Dunne was a visionary who wanted a life for gang members and their whanau free from addiction and prison.
