Last chance for flag vote
The Electoral Commission is warning people need to hurry if they want their flag referendum vote counted.
Chief Electoral Officer Robert Peden says voting papers need to be cleared and postmarked before voting closes at 7pm Thursday, so they will need to be taken to a PostShop rather than dropped in a street postbox.
Replacement voting papers can no longer be issued, and the race is now on to have all voting papers returned in time to be counted.
The preliminary result will be released after voting closes on Thursday.
The official result will be announced on Wednesday March 30.
The flag that receives the most votes in this referendum will be the official flag of New Zealand.
As of Monday, 1,901,599 voting papers had been received by the Electoral Commission, representing 60.20 percent of enrolled voters.
More information about voting in the referendum is available at www.elections.org.nz/flag.
