White keen to govern lost settlement

The man who salvaged what was left of Ngati Tama’s treaty settlement says there’s no way former chief executive Greg White should be allowed back on the trust.
Mr White is standing for the post settlement governance entity for the north Taranaki iwi, and with eight people standing for seven seats it’s highly likely he’ll get on.
Accountant and iwi member Richard Batley was called in after investments made with the tribe’s $14.5 million treaty settlement went bad, including a $12 million punt on an Australian software start-up.
Less than $2 million remains.
Mr Batley says as chief executive Mr White did whatever he wanted, and a board dominated by his family and supporters failed to check his activities.
Mr Batley says Mr White still has not admitted he did anything wrong, but the 2003 settlement should be worth more than $20 million by now even if it was managed conservatively.
