Maori brings high tech perspective to electricity board race

A Maori candidate for the Auckland Electricity Consumer Trust says he will be able to bring some missing perspectives to his work – including that of an engineer.
Voting for the trust ends on Friday, so people need to get their forms in the mail today or tomorrow to be sure of it counting.
Toa Greening says the trust affects anyone who has an electricity bill in the Auckland and Manukau region, and a large turnout would give trustees a mandate to act.
The former south Auckland local board member, who also serves on the Maori spectrum trust Te Huarahi Tika, says he’s standing because he has a professional and personal interest in the area.
"I've got a very long strong infotech engineering background that's perhaps one of the areas the trustees have been lacking. I've got a lot of experience in innovation with electric vehicles – high tech industry is where I have been heading in the last few years. There is a lot of synergy between myself and what can be done on the trust," Mr Greening says.
