Intensive hui plan for Ngapuhi

The Minister for Treaty Negotiations wants to see work on bringing the factions in Ngapuhi together start early next month and finish by Waitangi Day.
In a letter to Te Kotahitanga o Nga Hapu Ngapuhi, Christopher Finlayson said its proposal for an engagement process was helpful and constructive.
Te Kotahitanga, which opposes the Ngapuhi Runanga-backed Tuhoronuku negotiating a settlement for the Northland tribe, wants two full-day hui a week for the next two months to work through issues identified in the Waitangi tribunal’s Ngapuhi Mandate Report.
The hui would involve itself, Tuhoronuku, and the crown.
Mr Finlayson said the process needs to include any part who has expressed opposition to Tuhoronuku’s mandate or seeks to engage on the issues.
He says the crown is willing to make $106,000 available to fund the engagement work.
Te Kotahitanga is meeting in Whangarei today to discuss its next move.
