Wananga founder drops legal challenge

An $11 million legal action against Te Wananga o Aotearoa by its founder Rongo Wetere over alleged intellectual property infringement has been withdrawn.
Chief executive Jim Mather says there was no settlement payment, and Mr Wetere's Aotearoa Institute and his daughter Susan Cullen have undertaken to never again allege infringement of intellectual property rights.
Aotearoa Institute also withdrew claims against the wananga about governance and consultation on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority review of programmes.
Mr Mather says the legal issues hinged ion the enforceabilty of a 2006 agreement with the institute after Mr Wetere was forced to stand down as chief executive under pressure from the then-Labour government.
