Aotearoa to host indigenous healing summit

Maori workforce development organisation Te Rau Matatini is getting ready to host more than 1500 people from around the world at November’s five-day indigenous health and well-being conference.
Chief executive Marama Parore says the first Healing Our Spirit Worldwide Gathering took place in Edmonton, Canada in 1992 as part of an initiative to address chemical abuse and dependence among indigenous people.
Mauri ora or life force is the theme of the seventh Gathering, which opens with a powhiri at Turangawaewae Marae on November 15 and then shifts to Claudelands Arena in Hamilton.
Ms Parore says it’s a place people can exchange knowledge and hear from leaders in indigenous health.
