New appointments to Waitangi Tribunal
Ngai Te Rangi kamatua Hauata Palmer has been appointed to the Waitangi Tribunal, along with artist Derek Lardelli of Ngati Porou and Rongowhakaata and Queens Counsel Bill Wilson.
Mr Palmer, who holds and honorary doctorate in philosophy, worked for the Deparment of Maori Affairs before returning home to work with hapu and iwi in the Tauranga region.
Mr Lardelli is an expert in moko, kapa haka, tribal history and whaikorero.
He is an associate professor at Toihoukura school of Maori arts at the EIT Tairawhiti campus in Gisborne.
Mr Wilson previously served on the Waitangi Tribunal from 1986 to 1995.
He was appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal Judge in 2007 and the Supreme Court in 2008 but resigned in 2010 and has since practiced as an arbitrator, mediator and legal adviser.
Thirteen members were reappointed to the tribunal, including Chief Judge Wilson Isaac as the chairperson.
