Breaking down silos in government departments important

Minister of Maori Development and Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell says breaking down silos within government departments is important in overcoming family violence.
Mr Flavell says while he thinks proposed law changes in a discussion document released last week by Justice Minister Amy Adams are a good thing they wont be the whole answer.
"The proposals will meet expectations of many people and as a ministerial committee, we are looking at individual things to pick up on how we can coordinate agencies in a far better way. That has been a call on a number of occasions that still government agencies operate on a silo approach" says the minister.
Mr Flavell says much of his time in Wellington during the coming week will be spent in discussions about how government departments can work better together in addressing family violence.
