Auckland economic report identifies opportunities for Maori
The head of Auckland's Independent Maori Statutory Board David Taipari says a report into the Auckland Maori economy identifies considerable opportunties for Maori.
He says while there are some worrying aspects in the NZEIR report such as its finding that although Maori make up 10 percent of the population they account for no more than 5 percent.
Mr Taipari says the report saw the potential to create 120,000 jobs for Maori which would produce a billion dollars.
Others areas for growth include use of Maori Treaty settlement land, digi-tech education and developing Maori design skills.
