The oldest Pacific community education provider in Aotearoa the Pasifika Education Centre is actively promoting Maori language Week
CEO Christine Nurminen says te reo Maori is the first language of this country and its appropriate for Pacific Islanders along with all New Zealanders to support it.
Part of the celebration is the teaching of a new Maori word a day.
She says many of the students already know the words because they are the same or similar to words in Pacific languages.
