Te Wharepora Hou support Mauna A Wakea stand
Maori women’s collective Te Wharepora Hou is backing a protest by Hawaiian groups trying to shut down constuction of the world’s largest telescope.
Member Mera Penhira says the Thirty Metre Telescope (TMT) project is a direct attack on the physical, spiritual and cultural integrity of the ancestral mountain Mauna a Wakea.
She says the protests have stopped construction for now.
Hawaiian Governor David has been attempting to clear the way for construction to resume by seeking changes in the stewardship of Hawaii’s largest mountain, including adding cultural voices into the leadership structure.
