Kumara harvest fit for a king

Ngati Wairere elders and Hamilton Council gardening staff have today harvested the kumara from New Zealand’s only publicly-owned traditional Maori productive garden.
Hamilton Gardens’ operations manager Gus Flower says kumara is grown and harvested at Te Parapara Garden in line with the Maori lunar calendar.
The crop will be distributed to Te Arikinui King Tuheitia and local charities including the Salvation Army.
Te Parapara was the original name of the pre-European Maori settlement in what is now the centre of Hamilton Gardens.
