Profiles will help iwi with education aims


Education Minister Hekia Parata says new iwi education profiles will be a great help to iwi and hapu who want to play a greater role in education.
It’s the first time iwi-specific data has been extracted from the public achievement information now being collected by the Education Ministry.
Ms Parata says it includes not just percentages but the specific number of boys and girls at the various achievement levels.
"I am hopeful that this will allow us to partner even more effectively with greater targetting with iwi who are prioritising the raising of achievement of their uri. And I am very keen to be able to identify specific targets and goals with iwi and to support them in being successful," she says.
Hekia Parata says the latest NCEA pass rates show that Maori educational achievement has continued to improve under National, offering better prospects in employment and life for young Maori.
