Maori needs vital to Labour jobs initiative

The needs of Maori and Pasifika is one of the five themes the Labour Party has identified for its Future of Work Commission that will run up to the next election.
Launching the initiative at the Future of Work Conference at the Auckland University of Technology yesterday, commission chair and Labour finance spokesperson Grant Robertson said the aim was to develop policies to ensure there is decent work, lower unemployment, higher wages, greater economic security and high skilled and resilient workers.
Other core themes include technology, security of work and income, education and training, and economic development and sustainability.
Labour spokespeople will work alongside business, academics, workers and community representatives to develop policy options.
Mr Robertson says the commission has launched an on-line survey that asks people about their experience of work from their first job through to their hopes and fears about work in the future.
