Rustic cabins for trout fishers

A Rotorua trust is putting four cabins for trout fishers on the former Conservation Department reserve Ngati Rangiwewehi got back as part of its treaty settlement.
Te Tahuhu o Tawakeheimoa Trust general manager Te Rangikaheke Bidois says the iwi has limited resources, so it can’t afford a full scale development of Hamurana Springs Reserve.
She says the rustic cabins are similar to the DoC cabins you might find in the bush.
" Fishermen just want to fish have a place to doss down. We will provide the showers and toilet facilities. Yip it is a two minute walk to a separate facility. We are still working on the cooking, we didn't actually plan to provide that but there are options there. We have not fully developed what that will look like yet " she says.
Te Rangikaheke Bidois says the trust was still working through a consent process with Rotorua Lakes Council but hopes to open the cabins before the end of the month.
