Health scholarships open

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman is calling for applications for the Maori Health Development Scheme.
Almost $9 million a year goes into the scheme, split between scholarships and development support for Maori health and disability providers.
The money has been used to improve infrastructure, achieve service integration, improve the quality of services and develop workforce skills.
Dr Coleman says more than 500 Hauora Maori Scholarships are given each year in nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, physiotherapy and social work.
Last year 147 Maori medical students were awarded a scholarship – an increase of 50 percent since 2009.
Some of the 2015/16 funding is already committed in multi-year contracting agreements signed two years ago.
Information is on the Ministry of Health website and applications close March 13.
