MTV staff to learn fate
Maori Television staff will this afternoon find out the details of a proposed new organisational structure.
Chief executive Paora Maxwell told staff this morning that while the board had to pause the rollout of the proposal after it was discussed with ministers last week, it is now able to move forward.
Board chair Georgina te Heuheu has denied claims by Mana leader Hone Harawira that the changes involved dropping news programme Te Kaea and turning Native Affairs into a soft magazine programme rather than a hard current affairs.
However there are questions over the futures of production general manager Carol Hirschfeld and news and current affairs head Julian Wilcox, with a weekend newspaper claiming their positions were to be disestablished.
There are also questions about whether the channel should stay in its expensive Newmarket headquarters.
