Countdown counted out for racist shaming

Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy says the racist attack on a young Hamilton woman by supermarket workers highlights the sort of racial stereotyping people face every day.
Rikki Cooper went public after staff at Countdown Dinsdale humiliated her by using the instore intercom to send messages that 'the Maori girl should be watched as a potential shoplifter'.
Dame Susan praised her courage in speaking out.
She says racial stereotyping has no place in the country’s future and it’s everyday people who need to make it part of our history.
Countdown has apologised for the incident.
