Funders need to change their ways

Whanau Ora Minister Tariana Turia says the state needs to change the way it contracts with Maori.
Mrs Turia has taken responsibility for Whanau Ora away from Te Puni Kokiri and given it to three commissioning agencies who will identify service providers and programmes.
Speaking at the launch of the agency for the North Island, Te Pou Matakana, she said the providers are excited because they now feel they can get to the heart of families and make a difference, but their government funders are slow to change.
" There’s nothing worse then sitting in a hui listening to people saying that they have four agencies who they are dealing with a whole number of contracts with each of those agencies and then having been required to meet different outputs " she says.
