Internet Mana alliance causing voter rethink
Mana leader Hone Harawira says the Internet Mana alliance has allowed his party to escape the straightjacket mainstream media tried to put it in.
The latest Fairfax/Ipsos poll put support for Internet Mana at a combined 2.1 per cent, enough to give it three MPs if Mr Harawira holds Te Tai Tokerau.
National polled 56 percent, and Labour plummeted to 23 percent.
Mr Harawira says the media tried to pigeonhole Mana as a Maori, radical and left wing party, but teaming up with Kim Dotcom and Laila Harre has opened the eyes of voters to new possibilities.
"Life is about growing in today’s world. It’s not just about having principles, it’s about having those principals and making those principals relevant and workable in today’s world, and I like to think the connection between Mana and the Internet Party says a lot about what those alliances might mean for the future, for our rangatahi," he says.
The Internet Party announced its candidate list today, with Laila Harre taking the top spot, rocker Chris Yong second and digital Maori Patrick Salmon at number 8.
