Hui Taumata anniversary talkfest
Massey University is to bring together Maori business experts and academics in September to look back at the Maori Economic Summit 30 years ago and forward to the next 30 years.
The Hui Taumata focused attention on the idea of a Maori economy and brought together Maori from around the country to discuss the economic and social challenges they faced.
September’s Te Pae Roa 2040 conference will look at issues like the relationship between iwi development and whanau wellbeing, and the balance between economic, social, cultural and environmental management.
Selwyn Katene, Massey’s assistant vice chancellor for Maori, Pasifika and new migrants, says it’s an important step on the path towards the bicentennial anniversary of the Treaty of Waitangi in 2040.
Te Pae Roa 2040 will be held at the Albany campus.
