Digital opportunities brought to marae
A Whangarei marae is getting ready to take its whanau digital with the help of the national Maori broadband working group, Nga Pu Waea.
Wired marae spokesperson Piripi Moore says a dozen computers have gone into a new ICT hub on Kotahitanga Marae at Otangarei.
The results are being monitored to see if it’s something other marae would benefit from.
He says it’s not about the equipment but the programmes that should benefit the residents, whether it’s skyping whanau overseas or doing online training.
"We want to get the youth in their doing their driving licences. Too many of our youth get locked up because they drive round without a licence because they never have access to good training and good opportunities to do the work they need to get a proper drivers licence. Well, we can do all that online now," Mr Moore says,
