Whanau approach to oil hikoi

Marchers are preparing to set off tomorrow from Cape Reinga bound for Waitangi to highlight opposition to oil prospecting in the Reinga Basin off the Aupouri peninsula.
Hikoi organiser Reuben Taipari Porter says he’s getting support from all over the motu from people who want to join tomorrow’s start.
He says arrangements have been made to shuttle marchers’ vehicles while they are making the five-hour walk down Te Oneroa a Tohe from Te Paki to Hukatere, where they will spend the night.
"We’re non-funded so we don't have great resources but we are trying to work together as a whanau, and if everybody contributes in their own way and supports each other, we nurture and work together, we are going to get through this in a positive manner," Mr Porter says.
The hikoi will also include a march through Kerikeri on Tuesday before arriving at Waitangi the next day.
