The Maori Party is welcoming the decision by the Privy Council to hear an appeal by Teina Pora.
Co-leader te Ururoa Flavell says there are huge question marks over the convicton of Pora 20 years ago for the rape and murder of south Auckland woman Susan Burdett.
He says the case has become a symbol for problems with the justice system and police procedures, especially when they apply to young Maori suspects.
Mr Flavell wants to see an investigation into the circumstances around the handling of the original investigation.
