Brains and brown on show in Tainui
The Waikato-Tainui College for Research and Development will be celebrating leadership at tonight’s annual Raupatu Memorial dinner in Hopuhopu.
Academic director Sarah-Jane Tiakiwai says while past events have dwelt on the past, this year will also look ahead at the challenges facing the tribe.
She says the keynote speakers, Rachel Wetere and Yvonne O’Brien, are two of the first graduates of the Master of Business Administration programme delivered by the college in partnership with Waikato University’s School of Management.
Meanwhile, Waikato-Tainui is set for its largest tribal sports event this weekend .
The biennial Waikato-Tainui Games is expected to attract more than 20,000 tribal members competing, participating in or just watching sport sand games.
Events at the Hopuhopu sports and tribal complex include power pulling, touch rugby, netball, basketball, table tennis, volleyball, chess and a hiikoi.
There will be a finale concert on Sunday with performances by 1814, Sons of Zion, Bella Kalolo, Sammy J and Majic Paora.
