OPINION: It's been a terrible week for Len Brown but he should now do the right thing and resign.
I'm not part of the moral police who are demanding Brown's blood because of his infidelities but I have come to this conclusion after talking to my wife.
My wife is a pretty good judge of character – she must be because she picked me – and is not a person who likes to judge others or kick people when they are down.
But I know many female voters feel the same as her and while men will say it was only an affair and not a hanging offence, it shows a flaw in Mr Brown's character and judgment.
Plus we will never ever know if news of Mr Brown having an affair would have cost him the election had it been revealed earlier.
What we do know is he has a huge Maori, Pacific Island and Christian following and while they are likely to stand by their man, he would have lost mana in their eyes.
The view that Brown has deceived voters has merit. After all he has always paraded his family publicly so many voters, particularly the conservative ones, supported him because he was a loving husband and father and stood for strong Christian values.
The affair makes Brown look like a hypocrite and although his daughters have correctly stated that their father was not elected as a husband or a father but as a man who could serve the people, they are naive to think that many voters didn't take that into account when they voted for him.
As for the ‘other woman', I can only imagine the anger she felt after she was dumped.
She now claims she was treated worse than a hooker because at least prostitutes get paid.
Sorry Bevan Chuang, you knew he was married so no use trying to grab the moral high ground now.
However, there's no doubt that this sorry state of affairs is politically motivated.
