Jones attack off target

Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia says Maori got nothing out of the last Labour-led Government.
She has taken offense at Shane Jones’ comment that his job as Labour’s Maori affairs spokesperson was to win back voters from the Maori Party.
He says that party has aligned itself completely with John Key’s National Party, to the detriment of Maori voters.
Mrs Turia says while the Helen Clark-led Labour Government was in power, Maori stayed at the bottom of the table for education, health, social welfare and housing.
"What Shane should be doing is really evaluating that and determining what they can do better rather than trying to dismantle a political movement that is there with kaupapa and tikanga intact," she says.
Mrs Turia says because of the Maori Party’s support for a National-led Government, Maori initiatives have got $1.2 billion in extra funding.
