President upholding wahine leadership

The new chair of the Maori Party is keen to see its dual leadership system continue.
The party met over the weekend in Te Tai Hauauru to discuss its constitution and make preparations for next year’s election.
Naida Glavish says it will be important to stick with the model of male and female leaders, even when Tariana Turia steps down at the next election.
"That’s a good portrayal to our people that Maori women and Maori men are not in competition, both can lead equally and both have a role to play not only in politics but` in our whanau as well," she says.
Mrs Glavish says the party is in a good state and there seems to be a groundswell of support following the election of Te Ururoa Flavell as male co-leader.
