Destiny misses out on school cash

Destiny Church is disappointed it has failed to make the shortlist for the Government’s charter schools pilot.
Spokesperson Richard Lewis says the church’s existing school is working well, and it believed its proposal was a good fit to become a publicly-funded partnership school.
He says it seemed to get a good response from officials, but it has now been told it has been unsuccessful and the minister’s decision is final.
Destiny will be looking closely at who gets the South Auckland spot when the successful applicants are released in October.
"Our focus was always about what we believed we could deliver and what we could offer our community in making a difference educationally and for outcomes for Māori and Pacific. That is not going to change but the opportunity to have been resourced at a greater level by government would have empowered us to bring that to more Māori and Pacific in south Auckland," Mr Lewis says.
