Harawira defends errant MP
Mana leader Hone Harawira has jumped to the defence of National Party list MP Aaron Gilmore, who has lost the confidence of the prime minister after he gave conflicting stories about his treatment of a waiter in Hamner Springs.
A dining companion claimed Mr Gilmore threatened to use John Key's office to get the waiter sacked after the MP was refused more alcohol.
Mr Harawira, who has in the past had to weather stories about his behaviour, says the media has blown the incident out of proportion.
"Has this got anything to do with the way this country is being run, all of this prudish carry-on about people's behaviour? The guy screwed up but he has apologised 20,000 times. Let's drop it and move on," he says.
Mr Harawira says Aaron Gilmore's actions pale beside John Banks' attempts to deny he knew anything about internet millionaire Kim Dotcom's donations to his campaign for the Auckland mayoralty.
