Peters puts boot into "Happy" Gilmore
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says National backbencher Aaron Gilmore should be gone from parliament for his response to claims he abused a waiter in a Hamner Springs hotel.
If the MP resigns, his list seat would be taken by Māori broadcaster Claudette Hauiti.
Mr Peters says the release of texts between Mr Gilmore and one of his dinner companions, Christchurch lawyer Andrew Riches, reveals a different story to the one the MP was telling the Prime Minister and the media.
"Gilmore should be gone given his denials. It's not what he said. It's what he claims he didn't say which is being rebutted by the evidence, that suggests he should go now," he says.
