Pot shop has Manurewa fuming
Manurewa MP Louisa Wall is fuming over a new shop in the suburb selling synthetic marijuana.
She says its placement in the main street is disrespectful and flies in the face of public concern about so called legal highs.
Ms Wall says government is playing catch-up, with a bill regulating psychoactive substances still to be considered by a select committee.
That means community pressure is vital.
“The opposition from the community is so intense because blatant placement of this shop on the main street of Manurewa, across from the shopping mall but also outside a major bus route where children are getting on and off. The outrage from the community that I share is one now where we are mobilising to try and get this shop shut as soon as possible,”
Louisa Wall says the shop will be picketed, and direct approaches are being made to the landlord who approved its use to sell substances that are creating long term physical and mental health problems.
