Extra cash for Kainga Whenua
There will be money in the budget to help Māori land trusts and other collectives develop housing on their land.
Associate Housing Minister Tariana Turia says there will be $12 million over the next four years in Kainga Whenua infrastructure grants, which can pay for work like water reticulation, power lines, roading and kerbs.
She says they expand on the existing Kainga Whenua scheme, which supports the development of housing on multiple-owned Māori land where complex ownership structures make it difficult to obtain loans for building.
In December the income cap for eligibility for Kainga Whenua loans was lifted from $85,000 to $120,000 for one borrower and up to $160,000 for two or more borrowers.
Loans can also be used for home improvements, repairs and maintenance.
