Ngāi Tahu to lead Queenstown development

A Ngāi Tahu-led consortium has got the nod to build a convention centre on council-owned land in Queenstown.
If it goes ahead, the preferred operator is Sky City Entertainment, which wants to move its existing Queenstown casino into a larger conference centre and hotel complex.
Other members of the consortium who will negotiate with Queenstown Lakes District Council include infrastructure company Morrison & Co, global design company Populous which redeveloped Eden Park for the Rugby World Cup, and architects Fearon Hay.
Mayor Vanessa Van Uden says the council wants the operations of the convention centre to be financially neutral to ratepayers.
