Iwi representatives have secured places on a steering group to look at the Hauraki Gulf / Tikapa Moana Marine Spatial Plan.
The move by Auckland Council’s Auckland Plan Committee has been welcomed by David Taipari, the chair of the Independent Māori Statutory Board.
The group will be made up of 8 iwi representatives and 8 representatives of local government and statutory agencies.
Mr Taipari says iwi have intrinsic knowledge, close association with and concern for the gulf.
