Morgan says continued division shows blame misplaced
Former Tainui Executive Chair Tukoroirangi Morgan says the continued in-fighting since he was ousted shows he was not the source of the problems within the tribe's leadership.
The tribe's Te Kauhanganui parliament last night stood down its chair Tania Martin.
The move was called for in an unprecedented letter from King Tuheitia, which also endorsed Mr Morgan to stand for the role.
Mr Morgan says since he stepped down in March the tribe has wasted its opportunities.
"There have been ongoing scraps between Tania Martin and the Executive Board Te Ara Taura. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent unnecessarily on legal battles, and what is disturbing is our leadership have lost their way, lost the focus of what they were put there to do and that is to advance our people, to provide social and economic opportunities, and they have abrogated that responsibility because they have been too busy scrapping amongst each other," he says.
