Northtec boosting Maori arts capacity

The Northland Polytechnic is hoping a $3 million investment in the arts will boost the region's economic growth and boost Maori education.
Northtec this week opened the $3 million Toi Te Pito Creative Industries Centre at its Whangarei campus.
The centre will teach a range of trades and arts courses, including photography, film, media and Maori arts.
Chairman Vern Dark says 46 per cent of Northtec's students, and it had identified the need to raise its capability for Maori education.
