Tyson’s message of redemption needed
A prominent Auckland kaumatua says letting former world heavyweight boxing champion tell his story in New Zealand will give many young Maori a valuable lesson that they can turn their lives around from crime and violence.
The Manukau Urban Maori Authority is supporting Tyson getting a special visa to bring his Broadway show Mike Tyson: The Undisputed Truth to New Zealand.
Associate Immigration minister Kate Wilkinson cancelled an earlier visa because of his 20-year-old rape and assault convictions.
Dennis Hansen from Te Paatu says MUMA’s plan to get Tyson talking to young offenders on a marae is good, because they will listen to his message of redemption.
