Morgan defends Ngapuhi report
Facilitator Tukoroirangi Morgan is shrugging off personal criticism over his recipe for getting Ngapuhi to the table with the Crown.
Mr Morgan says he was backed for the role by Ngapuhi Runanga chair Sonny Tau, who is now rejecting his findings that the group set up by the runanga to negotiate the tribe’s historical claims, needs to be changed.
The next step is up to Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson, who as yet been unable to get the runanga and its critics to meet with him.
Mr Morgan says he stands by his report.
“It is easy to criticise. It is hard to find a way forward and move beyond that which has wracked Ngapuhi, division, in-fighting, all of that sort of stuff,” he says.
Mr Morgan says he will no longer work for the Crown while the Kingitanga is fighting to protect the mana of its waterways.
