Nuk Korako back for Environment Canterbury role
Ngāi Tahu has selected former National MP Tutehounuku (Nuk) Korako as one of its two members of Environment Canterbury.
The other slot went to Iaean Cranwell, who was a councillor from 2016 to 2019 and during the last term was one of two tumu taiao mana whenua experts on the council.
The selection by the 10 Waitaha papatipu rūnanga followed the passing of the Canterbury Regional Council (Ngāi Tahu Representation) Bill in Parliament in August.
Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu kaiwhakahaere Lisa Tumahai says the iwi is proud to finally have its people represented on the council table with full voting rights.
