The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is complaining about the Independent Maori Statutory Board’s $273,431 legal bill for its failed challenge of the Auckland Unitary Plan .
Spokesperson Jo Holmes, says the board’s role is to be a consultation body ensure the view of Maori in the Auckland region is taken into account when Auckland Council makes its decisions, not a co-governing body.
She says the appeal was an abuse of process which cost the Council and therefore ratepayers more than half a million dollars.
