Te Roroa is promising a new experience for visitors to Waipoua Forest that will help defend the forest from kauri dieback.
Work has started on sealing the road to the visitors’ centre, which will be the sole point of entry for tours into the ngahere and its giant Tane Māhuta.
General manager Snow Tane says there will also be raised boardwalks to stop visitors walking off the tracks and spreading the infection.
“Every visitor will be off the ground and the hikoi itself will be guided, so there will be no more access for unchaperoned visitors into the rākau rangatira trees,” he says.
Snow Tane says the tribe will be offering visitors a world-class experience.
The upgrade is funded by the Provincial Growth Fund.
