Maori vaccine outreach plan ramps up
As the vaccination programme starts ramping up and out, district health boards in Auckland and Northland are urging Māori to book early.
Northern Region Health Coordination Centre clinical director Dr Anthony Jordan says so far just 34 percent of the Māori aged over 12 have received a dose of the vaccine.
They want to get that higher through community outreach and opening more centres, with vaccinations starting at Papakura Marae this afternoon.
"Out west as well the Trusts Arena drive through opened over the weekend. It delivered over 5900 vaccines so that is fantastic and what you will see now is us reaching out through social media platforms and mainstream media as well specifically to our Māori community to make sure they understand they are a priority for us and making sure they get the earliest bookings we have available," Dr Jordan says.
