Labour Party MP supports the return of JT
Labour Party Māori vice president Parekura Horomia says he's keen to see former MP John Tamihere back in the party.
The Waipareira Trust boss says his bid to rejoin the party online was blocked and he was warned not to turn up to the party's conference in Auckland at the weekend.
Mr Horomia says he was unaware of any such warning, and he should take up his membership application with the party council.
"Apart from John being my whanaunga, I think he has talent our party needs. I would certainly be looking forward to him rejoining the party. I know his talents, I've worked with him. From a Māori world point of view I am very supportive of John," he says.
Mr Horomia says John Tamihere's history of homophobic statements has put him off side with many in Labour, but he should now have the maturity to overcome that.
