Māori Party top job row heats up
Waiariki MP Te Ururoa Flavell denies he is blackmailing the Māori Party over his leadership ambitions.
Party co-leader Pita Sharples has said he doesn’t like Mr Flavell’s threat to walk out if he doesn’t get the leadership.
Dr Sharples is blaming the division in the national council for allowing the row to drag on; with the prospect it could chafe away until the annual conference in November.
Mr Flavell says he’s only thinking of the party’s future and the need for rejuvenation.
He says while he has put himself up for the top spot, he is also prepared to step down at the next election if members say that is best for the party.
