Māori public servants targeted in cull
The kaihautu Māori of the PSA says the attack on Māori public servants is the worst she’s seen for 30 years.
Janice Panoho says Māori positions seem to be in the gun, especially at Oranga Tamariki where 450 positions are going.
That’s despite the majority of children and young people in its care being Maori.
“Regional Māori practice coaches, senior avisors iwi and Māori engagement, kaiarahi regional cultural advisers, also national Māori practice advisors, director of treaty response, as well as principal advisor communications Māori – that’s essential to be able to provide that service for the community,” Ms Panoho says.
The Public Service Association and other state sector unions are considering industrial action in response to ruthless and reckless government decision-making.
