Students see business options
It’s graduation day today for Maori secondary school students from around the country who have been taking part in the week-long Te Wero Pakihi business challenge at Awataha Marae on Auckland’s North Shore.
Maori Women’s Development Incorporation chief executive Teresa Tepania-Ashton says they’ve been working with project sponsor The Coffee Club on brand awareness and viral advertising, and testing a new business-focused board game, Mana Millionaires.
She says the students, who mostly come from low deciile schools with high Maori populations, have done the incorporation’s MaiBiz programme, and they’re keen to learn more.
"We hope that they will continue on with tertiary education, and focus on business as an option and that also one day they will own their own businesses because it's about showing them the opportunities they have available. They could be the megamillionaires of the future let alone a natural resource for our iwi as settlements continue," Ms Tepania-Ashton says.
