Ngai Tahu Tourism rewarded for China pitch
Ngai Tahu Tourism has won the award for excellence in tourism at this year’s HSBC New Zealand China Trade Association China Business Awards.
Association chair Martin Thomson says the awards are the leading national accolade for New Zealand companies doing business with China and vice versa.
He says Chinese see such recognition as noteworthy, and the awards could foster further Chinese investment.
The supreme winner was the company which has been buying up New Zealand farms.
Milk New Zealand Holding Limited is the subsidiary of conglomerate Shanghai Pengxin that bought the Crafar farms and 13 of Synlait’s farms.
The company has committed to a partnership with Maori owned Miraka, which manufactures UHT milk for export.
Mr Thomson says it’s the sort of foreign investment New Zealand needs, bringing jobs, skills, more trade, international linkages and cultural exchange.
