Sealord cuts Nelson jobs
Sealord is looking at cutting up to 97 jobs at its Nelson Wetfish factory.
Fishing general manager Doug Paulin says parts of the business are losing money, and the company needs to increase its focus on high-margin fresh and chilled products.
Last year the company failed to pay a dividend to its Maori and Japanese 50:50 shareholders as it absorbed losses from closing down its Argentinean subsidiary.
Chair Matanuku Mahuika says the group is now in a stable financial shape and has returned to profit.
Canadian-born food industry executive Steve Yung has just taken over as chief executive from Graham Stuart, who headed Sealord for seven years.
